چکیده

One of the advanced technologies incorporated into a micro gas turbine (MGT) is the dynamic air-lubricated (no oil lubrication) bearing. We investigated the performance characteristics of a self-acting air-lubricated bearing in a 50-kWe MGT. From the results of our experiments, we were able to clarify the following. (1) The thrust load of 300 N incurred by a 50kWe MGT cannot be supported by the dynamic air pressure generated by a pocket-type bearing with a micro-meter size groove. (2) The target performance (a film thickness of at least 20 μm at a load of 300 N) can be achieved by introducing compressed air (air pressure of equal to or more than 120 kPa) into the rotor disc surface through a pocket-groove. (3) The performance characteristics of the selfacting air-lubricated bearing were improved when a new structure featuring a rear-mounted thrust bearing with a sheet-spring was adopted.

An Investigation of Acoustic Emission Responses of a Self Aligning Spherical Journal Bearing

High power industrial machinery such as steam turbines and large pumps use journal bearings as rotor supports because this type of bearing is a high load carrying capacity. However, abnormal operating conditions in the journal bearings will degrade machine performance, shorten life time and increase the risk of operation. Bearing condition monitoring can detect faults at early stage and hence m...

Tribological behaviors of several polymer–polymer sliding combinations under dry friction and oil-lubricated conditions

The friction and wear properties of polyamide 66 (PA66), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) sliding against hemselves under dry sliding and oil-lubricated conditions were studied by using a pin-on-disc tribometer. The effect of applied load and sliding peed on tribological behaviors of the polymer–polymer sliding combinations under dry sliding and oil-lubricated cond...

A Baseline Theory for the Design of Oil-Lubricated Centrally Pivoted Plane-Pad Thrust Bearings

A baseline theory is developed in this paper for the design of oil-lubricated centrally pivoted plane-pad thrust bearings. By focusing on the hydrodynamics generated by the viscosity-temperature effects of the lubricating oil, a mathematical model is derived with a single dimensionless parameter Wth. The nominal value of Wth is 0.1 for typical pad bearings in current industrial practice. The th...

Lateral Dynamics and Stability Analysis of a Gas Compressor Supported by Hybrid and Active Lubricated Multirecess Journal Bearing

Fluid film forces are generated in multirecess journal bearings by two types of lubrication mechanism: the hydrostatic lubrication in the bearing recesses and hydrodynamic lubrication in the bearing lands, when operating in rotation. The combination of both lubrication mechanism leads to hybrid journal bearings (HJB). When part of hydrostatic pressure is also dynamically modified by means of hy...

Stability Analysis of Three-Lobe Journal Bearing Lubricated with a Micropolar Fluids

Abstract—In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of a threelobe journal bearing lubricated with micropolar fluids are determined by the linear stability theory. Lubricating oil containing additives and contaminants is modelled as micropolar fluid. The modified Reynolds equation is obtained using the micropolar lubrication theory .The finite difference technique has been used to determine the...
